Our Lone Oak Pinot Noir – so named for the solitary oak tree overlooking its vines –is a blend of leading French clones grown in our estate Evan’s Ranch vineyard. Despite the provenance of the clones, and compared to our Morgan’s Pinot Noir (which showcases the brighter and more classic international characters of Pinot Noir), Lone Oak is more Californian than Burgundian in style, with richer, riper fruit. It seduces with fresh, pure aromas of sweet black cherry, ripe strawberry, red plum and black raspberry nicely complemented by lovely sandalwood, rose hips tea and vanilla scents.
2018 was a generous and concentrated vintage in Sta. Rita Hills. A warm, dry spring and winter led to early bud break, trouble-free vine flowering and grape set, and a consistently sunny, mild summer with little rain and few heat spikes. The grapes were harvested at optimum maturity with exceptionally bright, rich flavors and vibrant acidity.
This wine is rich and concentrated on the palate, with delicious dark cherry, plum and blackberry flavors balanced by bright acidity and supple tannins. Our Lone Oak Pinot Noir culminates in a long, fruit-filled finish accented by savory spice, oak and mineral tones. Delightful on release, it will age beautifully in bottle for up to five years
