Sanford Winery

Sanford looks out over historic vineyard land from a tasting room of adobe brick and dark timber beams. Rustic elegance, refined but grounded, and a fitting setting for cool climate varietals. This is the site where the region's first Pinot Noir vines went into the ground in 1971.

Vega Vineyard

Vega is a charming farm setting with historic ranchlands and estate vines. Casual and family friendly, it is one of the easier stops for groups traveling with kids. An on site petting zoo and a seasonal food menu make it a genuine all ages destination.

Best tasting rooms in Los Olivos

The countryside estates give you the grand vistas. The town of Los Olivos gives you a different kind of scenic afternoon: a walkable downtown packed with tasting rooms, where you can stroll from one patio to the next without getting back in the car.

Evan's Ranch Tasting Room by Gainey  Our Los Olivos room sits right on Grand Avenue at the center of the village, pouring the Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from our coastal estate. A natural first or last stop on a walking afternoon.

Stolpman Vineyards  A fresh outdoor garden space and the right place to drink their carbonic patio wines.

Liquid Farm  A cozy lounge with a board game streak and low intervention Chardonnays.

Carhartt Cabin  A genuine family run cabin, and rare in the valley for staying open past 5:00 PM. Save it for the end of the evening.

How to plan your Santa Ynez winery day trip

Drive times

The valley sits on the Central Coast and is an easy getaway. Plan on roughly 2 to 2.5 hours from Los Angeles, or about 45 minutes over the mountains from Santa Barbara.

Suggested order of visits

Start your morning at a countryside estate while the light is still soft and the views are the point. Move midday to somewhere with a farm to table lunch, like Roblar or Vega. Spend the afternoon walking between the clustered tasting rooms in Los Olivos.

Reservations and logistics

Book your tastings ahead, especially on weekends. Cap the day at three or four wineries to avoid palate fatigue and keep things relaxed. And arrange a private driver or car service. Ride share apps are unreliable out here, and driving yourself after tasting is never worth it.
