Day trip to Gainey Vineyard from Los Angeles
The estate sits roughly 125 miles from Los Angeles, an easy two hour drive north on the US 101. Exit onto Highway 246 and follow the pepper tree lined road straight to the property.
Leave Los Angeles in the morning to land a midday tasting, and budget 60 to 70 minutes for a seated flight. Arrange a designated driver or book local transportation before you go. The rural two lane canyon roads here deserve your full attention.
What to expect at the Gainey tasting room
The tasting room is open daily from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the last seating at 4:00 PM. You can settle indoors in the Spanish style tasting room or the Barrel Room, or take a table outside on the vineyard terraces and the Vineyard View Lawn, where the vines run out toward the Santa Ynez mountains.
Reservations are strongly recommended, though walk in guests are happily accommodated based on the day's availability. Standard tasting flights run $25 to $30 per person. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious: educational if you want it to be, and easy if you don't.
