Gainey pours four current Chardonnay releases, starting at $26 for the Estate bottling and climbing through single vineyard wines from Evan's Ranch in the Sta. Rita Hills. All of them are estate grown on vines we farm ourselves, poured daily at both tasting rooms, and shipped nationwide from our online shop.

What to expect in the glass
California Chardonnay at its best uses warm daytime sun to build flavor and cool evenings to hold onto acidity. Our Estate bottling is a clear example of that trade: melon, citrus, and tropical fruit over a quiet line of minerality, with oak kept deliberately restrained so it adds a little toast and vanilla without covering the fruit.
The Evan's Ranch wines come from a different world. That vineyard sits roughly 10 miles from the Pacific in the Sta. Rita Hills, where marine fog and sharp day to night temperature swings slow ripening and preserve acidity. The Las Brisas and Caitlin's blocks are bottled separately because they taste like themselves: leaner, brighter, citrus and mineral driven, with the structural tension that only a genuinely cold coastal site produces.
The Limited Selection sits between the two, a small release from the best barrels of a given year.

Taste them before you commit
The best case for these wines is made standing in the vineyard they came from. We pour at two locations, both in the heart of the valley and an easy drive from Santa Barbara or a two hour run up from Los Angeles.

What is the difference between the Estate and Evan's Ranch Chardonnays?
The Estate Chardonnay is the rounder, more approachable expression. The Evan's Ranch wines come from a much colder coastal site in the Sta. Rita Hills and are bottled by individual block, which makes them leaner and more mineral driven, with brighter acidity.
Is Gainey Chardonnay available at local wine shops?
Some independent retailers in Santa Barbara County carry Gainey releases, though we are a small estate producer and distribution is limited. The single vineyard bottlings are usually direct only. Call ahead or order from us.
